La légende raconte que Geronimo a fait un rêve la veille du jour où les hommes blancs sont arrivés, il aurait rêvé que des hommes de couleur blanche venaient sur leurs terres pour les exterminer. Il venge sa famille le 30 septembre 1859, jour de la saint-Jérôme. Les cris des Mexicains invoquant saint Jérôme pour leur défense « Geronimo !
